WANJAM  (Wansdyke  Jamboree)  Bath Race Course 28thJuly – 4th August

In 2004 the plans began for a District Event inclusive of all Sections, bigger than anything that had been done before ,that offered sectional programmes and combined traditional camping with fantastic
opportunities. We wanted something BIG for the Centenary Year available to every member in the District and anyone else who wanted to attend too.

July 28th 2007 the plans came to fruition as Scouts and Explorers arrived for a week long camp and they were joined on the Tuesday by the Cubs. The Beavers had a sleepover in the local rugby club ready
to join everyone for the Sunrise Ceremony on the 1st August. They then came back on the Friday so that the whole District were together for the Closing Ceremony.

Approximately 650 people attended this event – an event which will be remembered for ever by all those who attended. Every single section of every group was represented and we were also joined by Air Scouts from Chiseldon, 133 from Bristol and 10th Bath Cubs whose planned venue was under water. and they needed a new venue. There are no words to express the fun, friendship, and achievements gained from the event.  In a summer of constant rain we were blessed with a week of fantastic weather and the local TV, radio and press followed the event with great interest.

There were hundreds of activities and so many people were generous of their time and services to make sure that our members had the time of their lives.

We set out in 2004 to make sure the Centenary Year was marked in a very special way and we achieved this through WanJam. There are simply not enough words to thank all those who were involved in the event.

Enjoy the pictures and read some of the thank you messages received after the event.

“It was an event that we shall not forget, the activities were so right for everyone, it was so good seeing Wansdyke District working together and of course renewing and making new friendships was just great.”

“Thank you again for the creation of Wanjam and what it achieved in the movements 100th year”

“Would just like to say that we had a fun time last Sunday, the kids were great and I hope that we were able to add a small part to your event.”

“Thank-you so much for your determination and organisation in ensuring Wanjam took place, I had a fantastic time and I know the explorers did – which makes it even better for me as a leader to see their smiling faces. “

It was a fantastic event you organised. I know it was more than just you but I can’t contact all of your helpers.  So please take this and let anyone who cares know that we are most grateful and you should be proud of what you achieved.”
