Twenty-eight Cubs from 1st Radstock and 1st Midsomer Norton Scout Groups spent the bank holiday weekend camping and taking part in a series of skill and fun activities in Radstock. The youngsters were introduced to new skills including semaphore signalling, orienteering, tracking, fire-lighting and cooking. There was also plenty of time to enjoy a quiz, a wide game based on the board game Cluedo, and a sing-song round the camp fire. William a Cub from Midsomer Norton said that he reckoned the best meal at camp was the breakfast of sausages and bacon. Josh, also from Midsomer Norton said the highlight of the camp for him was: “watching some of the grown-ups performing the Icelandic Lappa dance at the camp fire.” Zak from Radstock pack said he had found it hard to go to sleep on the first night, but no problem the night after. The Leaders and joint organisers of the camp, Paula Lovelady and Janet Turner, said: “We’ve had a great weekend together in perfect weather. It was wonderful to have a team of volunteer mums and dads helping the Cub leaders by preparing and cooking the meals and running some of the activity bases. The Radstock building and grounds are ideal for this sort of event.”
